Welsh Cycling is part of British Cycling, riders showing huge talent often go straight to the GB squad, which meant I had the privilege to work alongside British Cycling and the GB Squad supporting Welsh riders within their programme.

As Wales Junior Coach I not only supported our local riders, I also gave support to the riders within the GB squad. I supplied coaching and feedback and facilitated training sessions at Newport Velodrome when they returned to Wales, thus enabling the riders to continue along the GB pathway. You may not know but a good proportion of the GB squad was Welsh! Typically there were around 4 / 5 Welsh riders on the GB squad at any one time. I provided them with support on their allocated training programmes, helping them to perfect essential track skills such as ‘standing starts’, providing feedback on their individual pursuit and sprint efforts and the all essential motorpaced sessions which you probably see as the Keirin on the track.

These GB riders return to the Welsh Academy when they represent Wales at both National road and track and International UCI road and track events
