Working With Wales 🏴
As Wales Head Coach and Team Manager for the Juniors I started each year with a squad of around 10/12 16-18 year old girls and boys who had been identified with potential talent. They were selected to receive support from Welsh Cycling and Sport Wales. They were all individually coached by myself, provided with training, feedback and the opportunity to attend races, each junior stayed with me for 2 years before moving on to the Senior ranks. I also planned, organised and delivered residential training camps focusing on what would be needed for the coming season. Each junior rider, male and female had an individual training programme to follow to maximise their own potential. The camps also aimed to bring that potential together as a team, which is vital if they are to carry on as senior riders and potentially be spotted by a trade team to make a move to being a professional rider.
For over 4 years I managed these young riders, my time there produced national championship medals, multiple UCI International podium results on the road and track and multiple podium results in the National Series road events.
During my time as Wales National Coach, I also worked with the Wales U23 and Senior Supported Riders. I arranged racing trips on the road and track, both national and international, coached and facilitated training sessions and motor pacing for Olympic Champions Danni Rowe and Elinor Barker, Lewis Olivia, Jon Mould all of who medalled and was vital in the build up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
